Mid West Music Fest 2017 (a 2-weekend event)
- April 14-15 in LaCrosse, WI & April 28-29 in Winona, MN
- $80 for a 4-day ticket
Mid West Music Fest was founded in 2010 and brings together more than 70 bands and musical acts to venues throughout the LaCrosse, WI and Winona, MN areas. The festival is entirely nonprofit, partnering with the Sounds Like School initiative.
The LaCross, WI weekend will feature multiple Folk, Americana Rock, Blues and more from many local acts. Be prepared for some Indie Folk, Bluegrass and a little Rock N’ Roll at the Winona event
Dessa (of Doomtree) with the Minnesota Orchestra (2 performances)
- April 14th and April 15th at Orchestra Hall in St. Paul, MN
- $30 – $60
Dessa’s back-to-back nights with the Minnesota Orchestra are sure to bring the crowd something they’ve never seen before. Dessa brings R&B, hip-hop, Jazz and Soul together with her music and is performing for the first time with the Orchestra. Also a part of the collective Minnesota hip-hop group Doomtree, Dessa has proven her talent as a solo performer and is expected to bring a brilliant performance to the Hall.
MN Music Summit, Hosted by the Minnesota Music Coalition
- April 20-22 in St. Paul, MN
- $30 – $50
The MMC Music Summit is THE local music industry event for up-and-coming musicians. It’s an annual 3-day event developed for artists, fans and music industry professionals with tons of informative sessions and networking opportunities.
This year’s conference begins with a Thursday evening kickoff party to mingle with artists and industry professionals. Friday includes the option for one-on-one mentoring sessions, a keynote from Somali born musician Dalmar Yare and a session with prominent Minnesota-based musician Haley Bonar about what goes into creating a music video. Then, in the evening, network at the Soap Factory before a private performance from Gramma’s Boyfriend and Graveyard Club. Saturday will kick off with more one-on-one mentoring sessions, legal talk and a conversation with Stephin Merritt from The Magnetic Fields. Stephin kicks off a full afternoon of informative content and the event wraps up at the Amsterdam Bar and Hall with a music industry happy hour followed by a Grand Finale Concert with Galeynn Lea, Ambassadors of Culture and Annie Mack. It’s an event you won’t want to miss.
Tycho and The XX at Palace Theatre

Palace Theatre, which used to host musicians like Milton Berle and the Marx Brothers, according to Star Tribune, is open for business after nearly 40 years. The historic venue, located in Downtown St. Paul, closed in the early 1980’s and reopened with a bang on March 10 with a sold out performance from Atmosphere and from The Jayhawks on Saturday. See this month’s most anticipated Palace Theatre performances in the refurbished space that is once again St. Paul’s largest rock theater.
