Best Breweries for Music in Minneapolis (Twin Cities)

Best Breweries in Minneapolis for Music Bauhaus Liquid Zoo_HDR.jpg

May 25, 2019

There are so many things to love about Minneapolis, but one of those things are the many great breweries located throughout the Twin Cities. One of my favorite things to do on a summer weekend day is meet friends at a brewery. What’s more, you can catch some great local music at breweries, too!

Minnesota is definitely experiencing a beer boom and I think it’s safe to say it is not going to settle down any time soon. Minnesotans seem to love the scene - especially in the summer, when most breweries open up their doors and expand their services onto patios and outdoor spaces.

Check out some fun facts about the Minneapolis brewery culture on the MPR News website.

Need I say more? Check out my list of my favorite Minnesota breweries to catch music at.

Bauhaus Brew Labs

Bauhaus Brew Labs has become my favorite spot to catch music in the Northeast Minneapolis area. Not only do they KILL it with their lineup for the annual Minneapolis Art-a-Whirl event, which they title Liquid Zoo; they also bring in music often in the summertime.

Over the years, they’ve expanded and updated their modern and unique space. Not bad for a brewery that is newer to the scene. For bigger events, Bauhaus opens up their parking lot space and sets up booths for merchandise and more. (P.s. The brewery has been hinting at a "5 Years of Awesome” event on July 13th. More on that here: https://dojour.us/e/11367-5-years-of-awesome.)

612Brew

Not only is 612 Brew just a great place to hang out, they also have plenty of music events to tune in to. You can catch plenty of Minnesota-based musicians and artists at their Music on the Patio series on Friday nights. Check out their events calendar for more information about the music.

Fulton

Fulton Beer in Minneapolis has a really fun space great for big or small groups. Their beer is tasty and their music offerings are a plenty! Most Sundays Fulton hosts music as part of their Sunday Music Series. Check out their events calendar for information on performers.

Surly Brewing

Surly Brewing has a large indoor taproom and an equally great outdoor space, which they open up for music for special occasions. In partnership with First Avenue, Surly Brewing began hosting larger concerts at its “Surly Brewing Festival Field” in 2018.

This year’s #SummerofSound music at Surly Brewing will include Har Mar Superstar, Dessa and Lazerbeak, and Jeremy Messersmith, among others. And their Festival Field will host national acts, including Lord Huron, Ben Folds and the Violent Femmes, Of Monsters and Men and others.

OUTSIDE THE CITIES…

While there are plenty of options to choose from when it comes to catching music at a brewery in the Twin Cities, you’d be missing out if you didn’t venture out every once in a while to some of the hottest spots outside of Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Junkyard Brewing Company (Moorhead, MN)

Junkyard Brewing Company alone is worth a visit to Moorhead, MN. They bring in a ton of great musicians and artists from across the Midwest. Check out their events calendar.

Unmapped Brewing (Minnetonka, MN)

If you have a calling to discovering the next up-and-coming Minnesota musician, Unmapped Brewing’s Unmapped Songwriters Acoustic Showcase is for you. Every Tuesday, show up for a showcase of local artists and songwriters.

Fitger’s Brewhouse (Duluth, MN)

If you find yourself in Duluth (as you should on a warm, summer day), be sure to check out Fitger's Brewhouse. They have been known to host music two to three times per week (though their events calendar features a bit less than that), with low cover fees.
